Hi

I am having trouble setting a timer where I don't think I should have a problem.

I have 4 sat tuners. In the same time slot there are timers already set for One show (BBC One 1900-1930), The Mountain (BBC One 1930-2000), New: Monkey Thieves (Pick FSAT 1930-2000)

I also have timers for The Boats that built Britain (BBC 4 2000-2030) and How the Monarchy can Make you (Channel 4 2000-2030)

I am trying to set a timer for Top Gear (BBC 3 1900-2000) and get a failure quoting clashes with all 5 of those mentioned above.

Why on earth do those timers starting at the end of the required timer have a say on whether a timer can be set or not? I can easily edit the existing timers - for example, if I add 1 minute to the start time of either of the timers starting at 2000 then the timer I am trying to set works fine. This, I suppose, means that a timer ending/starting at the same time are considered clashes! Not very sensible at all. I don't think I have had this issue with other VIX versions, so has something been changed that may account for this?

It clearly isn't anything to do with available tuners, because, even if the timer is set, then there are only 3 tuners needed to cover them in the same time slot (1900-2000).

I count 4 tuners in use instantaneoulsy at 20:00 (Subject to no pre/post overlap at play).

If the timers started at 1 second past the minute, there would be no clash.

Hi

Well yes, I already mentioned that editing the start time of any of the 2000 timers gets rid of the conflict. But this kind of conflict didn't happen before (as far as I can remember). BTW, I have no start/end padding enabled which might have played a role. Isn't the software able to adjust existing timers by one second to accommodate a requested timer then. Seems it wouldn't be a hard feature to have.

EDIT: it may be useful (certainly by me) if the settings for 'Margin before/after' recording could be set to a minus value. It would solve the issue I mentioned. Even better, if the 'Margin before/after' could allow a negative seconds before/after.

I doubt it should be relevant, but were you tuned to a different channel to the 5 you're setting timers for?

That, plus timeshift, would add an extra tuner into the mix, although it still shouldn't happen anyway.

Hi
No timeshift, and the box was tuned to the BBC News channel at the time I was setting the failed Timer, but that must be irrelevant anyway as the timer I was trying to set was some time in the future and the box would (as usual) change channels to accommodate the timer(s).

I'd have thought that nothing is irrelevant when you're having problems that shouldn't be happening.

if i get clashes i look at the end time of recordings which can be 5 minutes after your second one is suppose to record, sometimes my options might be the +1 channel or if program is repeated at a later time use that.
you have the manual choice of starting recordings say 9.30 and stopping at 9.59 to allow second recording at 10.00 and stopping at 10.29:D

Hi
My post isn't really about how I get a timer using various other means, it is about why there was a conflict where non should exist (by my reckoning anyway). I know about +1 options and later time broadcasts and adjusting start/end times etc. I *think* the software should really be able to separate a Timer starting at exactly the same time as the ending time of a Timer you are trying to set, without reporting it as a conflict. I mean, if the software can cope and manage to allow for pre/post padding of a user set value then it must be able to adjust timers by a matter of seconds to accommodate a new Timer - mustn't it?

Hi
Well, I can't understand the point you are making. Say you are trying to set a Timer for sometime 2 days from now and had the same issue I posted about, then how exactly does timeshift and/or current channel interfere with the setting of the Timer? In my case, I was trying to set the Timer a matter of 2 hours+ before the Timer start time.

That is the way it is at the moment. The diagram above shows you why the clash happens. Apart from adjust timer, there is nothing else you can do about it. You are doing everything correctly.

Hopefully it will be agreed and adjusted sooner rather than later.

But you weren't setting a timer for 2 days from now, it was 2 hours, so timeshift might have had a bearing.

And I did say that I doubted it would be relevant.

Are all 4 tuners configured and working ok?

I must say that this does surprise me.

Does this mean that a box with a single tuner can't record consecutive programmes (one ends when the other one starts, no padding) on different mux's (or whatever the terminology is), without a clash being generated?

Hi
Yes, all 4 tuners are OK. Timeshift may well have been relevant as you say, but I don't use it.

yes i get timer sanity error on my tm nano single tuner as old recording stops 5 mins after the next recording was due to start, sometimes programs dont start or end at correct times, say footy had extra time and program is 1/2 behind:mad::D

i can change start stop times and record next program

Yes, that is what it means.
