OpenViX 6.9 Release discussion thread

Hi there, is it best to install and restore settings even when going from 6.9.002 or is that advice for folk upgrading from pre-6.9 versions?

Thanks
Paul
Settings restore should be ok

Settings restore should be ok
Many thanks for that. What about going from 002 to 003 with the softwareupdate option. I am guseeing that this is never a good idea anyway - fresh install is always safest with a settings restore right? I was just trying to follow Huevos' warning on the release notes that says "Please note, there have been more than 1000 changes in oe-alliance-core, many in low level modules. Therefore it is advised to flash and restore rather than using SoftwareUpdate screen.".

I wasn't sure if this applied to minor in version updates like 002 to 003 or just appled to major updates like 6.8 to 6.9 etc....

Sorry for my confusion🥴

Software update wouldn't be advised due to the changes. Flash online and settings restore should be ok but double check everything

Dear OpenVIX developers, as you are likely already aware, it is impossible to open the ServiceApp plugin after installing the OpenVIX 6.9.003 image, attempting to open it results in a crash log please fix the ServiceApp plugin so that it can be opened after installation... I would be grateful for you!

@bellejt , I don't know if my answer will help you, but personally, I always perform a clean image installation via USB without any backup or restore because it won't take much time though that’s just my own opinion

then i need 45 minutes to reinstall all :) . Fresh couch install with restore and as said all is fine except that view shows big letters instead of small caracters.Image as before : 1791646861244.webp

I don't think there's any problem spending even more than 45 minutes to install a clean image without any previous settings...I gave you some really good advice just you think about it

I did a flash and restore on my sf8008 and all ok except for one possible one bug. Swap manager is green and active even though it was not set up and you can't set to inactive. Can anyone else check?

Do you have a swap setup in your fstab?

Hi,I put the latest release 6.9.003-- Zgemma H17 combo -- as much as I try, after installing the latest release 6.9.003 -- coming from the immediately previous one, I can't set the screen size. The controls are like blocked (the number goes up or down, but nothing moves on the screen). I reinstalled 3 times -- one of which EX NOVO -- without restoring the previous settings saved from the old version 6.9.002 which worked fine. I even tried to act on the SONY Bravia TV -- to deactivate, set-modify the Overscan -- but nothing to do -- Even the version reinstalled from new completely with all the settings made again, unfortunately it does not allow you to change the size and height of the screen, In practice it is slightly too high, slightly shifted to the left -- and slightly too wide. Little thing for goodness sake, but annoying, so much so that the pics on the channel are slightly cut off on the left.

Not that i can see and swap was not running before the update.
Edit: I've gone back to 6.9.002 on another slot which uses the same settings and swap is not running and says inactive.

Swap is defined in the build for h17

Not sure what that means but mines an Octagon sf8008. And surely you should be able to activate and deactivate at will? If you click deactivate you get image 2

You are correct I looked at wrong post…
Open a terminal to the box and enter parted -l /dev/sd? | grep swap and see what it says

So you appear to have a defined system swap - not sure where that comes from.

Well if you don't ,I certainly have no chance of finding out! Just one thing that may or may not have a bearing is that I had slot 1 and slot 4 with exactly the same image and the settings backup was from slot 1. I flashed slot 4 with 6.9.003 and used the settings backup. Not sure if that would make any difference as there is no indication in the backup as to what slot it came from.

Maybe someone of the OpenVIX image developers can answer, I see that is fixed the ServiceApp plugin what is the best approach right know I must reinstall the new OpenVIX 6.9.003 image from USB, or simply download the ServiceApp plugin from the feed? The version when I downloaded previously was plugin serviceapp (0.5+git240) and it appears to be the same version right know. Thanks all in advance for your reply
