Hi all!

I am trying to get my brand new Vu+ Duo up and running. I have installed Vix image 2.2.100. But i can not get my wireless connection to work.

The router is a Netgear WNR3500L with stock firmware and the USB WiFi dongle is an D-Link DWA-140 (H/W rev B2, firmware ver 1.71). In the router, I have configured wireless settings for SSID, WPA-PSK, and a passphrase. The network adapter settings in the Duo are configured the same as in the router. But there is no connection when i hit OK in settings window.

Network test shows this:
LAN Adapter LAN connection (green)
Wireless disconnected (red)
DHCP enabled (green)
IP Adress unconfirmed (red)
Nameserver unconfirmed (red)

The DWA-140 led is blinking when i am in the network setup window, but stops blinking when i hit OK to accept the settings.

The SSID of my network is found when i search for networks, so the hardware seems to be OK (at least in the direction from router to dongle).

Am i missing something?

Please help!!!

Fixed LAN-connection is the only way to work properly in VIX and I have tested many.
I use LAN through electric power line and A-Link PA200AV.

I'm not sure about 2.2.100, but I can already give away that in 2.2.3 WiFi will work just fine. So if you can still wait, please do so (and please don't ask when 2.2.3 will be released: we are working on it and when it's ready it's ready).

1. Did you also install the driver for Wifi. it seems that your wifi dongle is based on 2870 chipset.
You will find the driver in the feeds.

2.Instead of using dhcp you could use a fixed wlan ip adress, nameserver and gateway.

Also disable the lan and only use wlan. Normally when setting up wlan the wizards asks to disable second lan adapter.

No, i did not install anything.

How can the Duo install the proper driver from the feeds without an internet connection? (i am guessing that "feeds" are the stuff the Duo can download from some site on the net, right?)

This was interesting...

1. I connected the Duo to my router with a cable, configured the direct connection in settings and managed to get a connection to internet.
2. Next i updated to ViX 2.2.110 by using the Duo setup menu and then restarted.
3. I then disconnected the cable, connected the dongle, restarted and went in to network settings again and setup the WiFi dongle and hit OK. And now i am connected to internet using the DWA-140 wireless USB dongle. Network test shows everything in green!!! :cool:
4. So, just to make sure it really works i restarted the Duo and checked the network connection again. No connection. What the f...? :confused:
5. I went in to network adapter settings again and found that the interface is not activated (use = no). So i set it up again the same way as in step 3 and hit OK. This time no connection!!! :(

My conclusions are these:
There is a driver for the DWA-140 in the system and it is working.
There is a problem with the setup. The adapter settings for wireless are not stored permanently, and setting it up once somehow messes things up so it cannot be setup again without a firmware reflash.

To me, this sound like something that might be really simple to fix, like a one line change in some settings file. I dont know anything about linux (yet), but i am a programmer, and if someone can direct my i might be able to get this WiFi working on my Duo, and if so i will post a tuto on the forum to help us all until ViX 2.2.3 is released.

Hey Delagroov, thanks for your help so far, we are almost there i think.

I edited my interfaces file to this:

Code:
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up
pre-up iwconfig wlan0 essid "xxx" [I]# where xxx is the SSID of my wlan[/I]
  pre-up /usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -B -dd -Dwext
  post-down wpa_cli terminate

This brings up the wlan again, but Nameserver is unconfirmed. Something wrong with dhcp?

Could you please give me the correct contents for the interfaces file?

The wpa_supplicant.conf file looks like this:
Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
eapol_version=1
fast_reauth=1
ap_scan=2
network={
	ssid="xxx" [I]# where xxx is the SSID of my wlan[/I]
	scan_ssid=0
	key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
	proto=WPA
	pairwise=TKIP
	group=TKIP
	psk="ccc" [I]# where ccc is the passphrase of my wlan[/I]
}

Does that look OK to you?

I did not try to restart with these settings since i had the problem with the nameserver. Will try that when wlan is up and running as it should.

Sometimes a restart helps to get the right dhcp configs form the router.
Also make sure you disable the lan adapter and only use the wlan adapter.
Perhaps the router does not give the nameserver without restarting the vuduo.

Otherwise I would make manualy settings with static ip and so instead of using dhcp.
I use static ip on my wlan and default gateway and nameserver are similar on my router, so you have to look what your router uses.

I have gone through everything mentioned here and finally gave up WLAN in VIX. Now I'm eagerly waiting for VIX 2.2.3.

This does not work. Something is disabling wlan on restart. I am giving up this and will start looking for some other image. Hope to be back with ViX when 2.2.3 is released. Thanks all for your help.

Can someone please tell me if there is some other image where wifi for the D-Link DWA-140 dongle (RT2870 chip) is working at the moment.

VTI used to work well but otherwise it is not as good as VIX.

Thanks rte.

I have installed VTi now and it works! And i agree, otherwise not as good av ViX, so i will probably be back to ViX when they fix the wlan.

Wlan is faulty in pli and vix was unaware

The WLAN console has been fixed for vix 2.3

Network connection problem Vu Duo

Perhaps this should be a new thread?
I have the latest Vix image flashed installed. I am trying to connect my Vu+ Duo to my LAN/router. Some of the results are:
1. Network configuration Wizard; DCHP=YES. “Your internet connection is working now”
2. Network test; all ok except Nameserver=unconfirmed
3. Manual configuration; DCHP=YES. all ok. Network test; all ok except Nameserver=unconfirmed
4. Reset router. Switched off Vu. Waited. Switched on Vu; Manual configuration; all ok.
5. Restart network; ok; Network test; IP address=unconfirmed, Nameserver=unconfirmed.
My desktop PC, my laptop, my TV, my printer and my scanner all connect normally to the router and all can be seen. The Vu refuses to connect. I use a VONETS USB dongle which I preconfigured with security keys etc.
Re-flashed. Backup not used. New setup done.:
Manual configuration; DCHP=NO. all ok. Network test; all ok.
Just to prove it, another Network test; IP address=unconfirmed !!!
I had it working briefly some days ago but the IP address did not show up in the active devices list on my router. That’s why I decided to re-configure. (If it ain´t broke,….)
Anyone any clues or suggestions on what is going on? And how to fix it?
