Is it possible to connect my VU Duo to my VU Solo to I can watch recordings from each box via the network?

I've tried adding a network mount with the following settings:

Mount Using: FSTAB
Active: enable
Local share name: Duo
Mount type: CIFS Share
Server IP: 192.168.1.62
Server share: /hdd/movie
Use as HDD replacement: no
Mount options: rw
Username: root
Password: default

This shows in the Mount Viewer, but does not connect and does not let me see anything in the media player

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Instal nfs share on both boxes. Think it is in, menu-system-setup-network.......I think.

Then mount them both as nfs..

Should then work no problem when you go into file library then yellow button for location

Thanks for the reply. I've done as you suggested and switched to NFS share, but still no luck. Can't access either box via the file library - yellow button. I do have a link to my PC set up and working fine.

Any other suggestions?

I've worked out how to do it. For anyone else who might need this at some point in the future, I found the following tutorial:

If links to other forums aren't allowed, I'll paste the tutorial below. Credit goes to Ten Below on *****************.

Tutorial - Using your VU+ as nfs server to second receiver
I have setup my vu= solo as an nfs server so my kids can record to & watch my recordings on their dm500 that i have stored on my external hdd connected to the vu+ solo.
Here is how to set it up for anyone who wants to do the same.
Most VU+ Images have the nfs option installed if not you should be able to download it via your images plugin panel, if not i have attached it below. (sorry could not find uno version)

Step1- Setting up the VU+

First enable the service on your VU+

The NFS server share configuration is located at /etc/exports. This is a simple file... edit it using DCC or whatever you use for ftp.
The contents of my file is as follows:

Code:
/media/hdd/ 192.168.x.x/24(rw,soft,upd,nolock)
/media/hdd/ = location shared out

192.168.x.x/24 = network subnet to make share available to. This is using network authentication rather than user authentication - i.e. as long as it comes from that network, it is trusted.
You will need to change this based on the LAN subnet address you have set up... 192.168.x.x/24 (/24 is another way of saying 255.255.255.0 in networking) would be a common alternative for home networks.
(rw,soft, upd, nolock) - note no space between network address and bracket... rw means read/write enabled, the options listed work well

Once the exports file is set up, reboot the receiver to be sure the changes take effect.

NFS should now be running and sharing out /media/hdd over NFS

Step 2 - Setting up the Second Receiver

Go to your images mount manager to add the new nfs mount

Enter the IP of the NFS Server/VU Box. For the share path, enter /media/hdd/ (or whatever path you shared in the /etc/exports file above)
The local Dir should not require changing. Once you have entered the info press the mount button (usually green) and you should get the message it has mounted sucssessfully.

Now you should be able to access the nfs share via your images movie player under hdd.

Movie playback is perfect

Now you might get some peace & quiet during the school holidays.

Enjoy it

There is no need to amend any files for VIX.

As Mickeyblue said, go into network and network browser and it should if your devices are connected properly discover them and than its a matter of mounting the HDD, you can do it as A NFS or CIF share and I always say NO to password.

rest is yellow button in file list to access the HDD

i had same issue and used samba on the duo and the solo could then expand the host.

allow me to elaborate a bit on that: the file '/etc/exports' defines the path that can be used for making mounts. The default range is indeed 192.168.0.0; if your network is within that range you will be fine.

However: if your network uses a different range (such as the widely used 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 & 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255) you'll need to adapt the file for that range.
