Default Vix player stretching .mkv videos?

Hi guys

When playing .mkv videos using the default player (i.e. opening a mounted nas drive and playing). I've noticed that on some videos it actually stretches the picture rather than display the top and bottom black borders. I'm guessing that the player probably doesn't support the correct aspect ratio of the .mkv file.

Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to change the settings so that the picture is correct, albeit with the top and black borders.

Thanks

Video Output: HDMI
Mode: 720p
Refresh Rate: multi
Display 4:3 content as: Nonlinear (try changing this, no change to picture on any setting)
Display>16:9 content as: Letterbox (ditto above)
Digital downmix: yes
General AC3 Delay: 0
General PCM Delay: 0

Sorry about current Netherland vs Germany score :(

Hmmm, one of those two:
Display 4:3 content as: Nonlinear (try changing this, no change to picture on any setting)
Display>16:9 content as: Letterbox (ditto above)
should be the culprit if anything goes wrong. Or maybe the aspect-ratio-setting of your TV?

Not the TV, ran through all the settings on that aswell, same files plays fine using my WDTV Media player (with top & bottom black borders).

Will investigate more, thanks for the response.

Myself I found that the only solution is to go to the video settings, EVERY time I play a downloaded movie (mkv, mp4, avi or whatever), and change the 16:9 setting as: letterbox, back and forth. In other words, after I start the movie, I go to the menu/system/A/V Setting/Display 16:9 content as: letterbox, swap it to 'Just scale' and I go back again to 'Letterbox' / press green button (OK button). The aspect ratio 'self-corrects' to the intended movie aspect ratio.

It works for me, hope it does for you too. ;)

My video settings are

Video output: HDMI
mode 1080i
Refresh rate: multi
display 4:3 content as: Just scale
display 16:9 content as: letterbox

I find it's the 4:3 setting I need to change to pillarbox to sort this problem for me

i have the same problem and tried all above and nothing is working , and i'm pretty pissed because of that .
4:3 - pillarbox
16:9 - letterbox
TV is on 16:9
also tried to change on off and go back to movie - still no go
i really want to watch right aspect ratio can some1 help me pls .

well don't get me wrong , i'm enjoying VIX image very much , and i'm pissed because i can't fix aspect ratio for movies . as u can see i'm also asking politely can someone help me . i'm not flaming anyone .
btw english is not my native language so sorry if "pissed " is offensive for u

Try updating to build 580 when it becomes available & let us know if the issue has been fixed.

going back and forward in 16:9 is doing the job . now is fine , will try later after movie is finished to restart the box and check if aspect ratio will stay OK

Sometimes it is worth remembering how hard and nervously tackled really relevant things!

This is a bug in the drivers of all VU boxes; so there's nothing we can do about it.

Plugin "aspectratioswitch" works for me. Setting once per issue has pretty much stopped me playing with the AV menu.

Possibly, but OI uses many outdated help-files. No way we can use those in a modern, up-to-date image.

Anyway: it's driver related.

This should use the new help files in a modern image,so that all the basic features to work! :)

ViX has extensive help files installed as standard which are very regularly updated, as pointed out however this is a driver related issue and because of that we have no control over it nor can we fix it. also which OI image exactly are you using as that would at least tell us if it's OE 1.6 or OE 2.0.
