Have you tried re-flashing WITH a settings restore?
YES
Hi,

I have a Vu+ Zero 4K running OpenViX 6.9.002 connected by HDMI to TV. (TV is not 4k)

I have an intermittent problem when switching between the TV's built-in terrestrial tuner and the Vu+.

Normally:

Terrestrial TV → select Vu+ HDMI input → picture appears

But occasionally:

Terrestrial TV → select Vu+ HDMI input → Sony displays “No Signal”

The Vu+ is still running normally. If I then switch the TV to my Sky+ HD box for a few seconds and switch back to the Vu+ HDMI input, the Vu+ picture immediately appears again.

So the recovery is:

Vu+ (No Signal) → Sky+ HD → Vu+ → picture restored

I don't have to reboot the Vu+.

Things I have already tested

  • OpenViX 6.9.002
  • HDMI-CEC: Disabled
  • Video output tested at 1080p
  • Video output tested at 1080i — used for several weeks and the problem still occurs
  • Bypass HDMI EDID check = YES — problem still occurs
  • Bypass HDMI EDID check = NO/OFF — problem still occurs
  • Same HDMI cable worked reliably previously, before this problem started
  • The TV works normally with the Sky+ HD box
When the problem occurs, the tv specifically reports “No Signal”, rather than simply displaying a black TV picture.

The issue is intermittent, and switching to the Sky+ HDMI input and then back to the Vu+ immediately restores the picture.

Has anyone experienced this particular behaviour with a Vu+ Zero 4K ?

Any help appreciated

Thanks.

Here is what Gemini AI suggests It may help:

This is a classic HDMI handshake dropout between the Vu+ box (running OpenViX) and the Sony TV. Because the recovery workaround involves switching to another active device (Sky+ HD) and back, the problem lies in how the Sony TV drops the Hot Plug Detect (HPD) signal or fails to properly request the EDID configuration when returning from terrestrial TV to the Vu+ input. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Since you have already tried changing resolutions, disabling HDMI-CEC, and configuring the EDID bypass settings, here are the most effective remaining solutions to fix this:

1. Change the Sony TV’s HDMI Signal Format

Sony Bravia TVs handle HDMI inputs through software configurations that can interfere with Linux-based receivers like the Vu+.

  • Go to your Sony TV's Settings.
  • Navigate to Channels & Inputs > External Inputs > HDMI Signal Format.
  • Locate the specific HDMI port your Vu+ is plugged into. If it is set to Enhanced format, switch it to Standard format (or vice versa). Standard format is often much more stable for legacy 1080p/1080i handshakes. [5, 6]

2. Swap to a Different HDMI Port on the Sony TV

Not all HDMI ports on Sony TVs behave identically.

  • Avoid using the ARC / eARC port for the Vu+ box if you can help it, as that port continuously broadcasts audio returns and state signals which can confuse the handshake loop.
  • Move the Vu+ to a standard HDMI input (e.g., HDMI 1 or HDMI 4) and see if the wakeup behavior changes. [7]

3. Clear the Sony TV's External Input Cache

Sony Android/Google TVs run a background system service that manages input state detection, which can become buggy over time. [5]

  • Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Show system apps.
  • Look for ExternalinputServices.
  • Select Clear data and Clear cache, then restart the TV completely. [5]

4. Adjust the Enigma2 Refresh Rate Mode

Sometimes the issue occurs because the box is set to auto-negotiate frame rates (e.g., switching between 50Hz and 60Hz depending on content).

  • On your Vu+ box, go to Menu > Setup > Audio & Video > AV Settings.
  • Check the Refresh Rate setting. If it is set to Multi, lock it to 50Hz (or 60Hz depending on your regional broadcast standard) to see if keeping a fixed refresh rate stops the signal from dropping during input switches.

5. Hardware Workaround: Use an EDID Emulator or Cheap HDMI Splitter

If the TV software modifications do not resolve it, the hardware transceiver on either the TV or the Vu+ is physically dropping the 5V/HPD line. [4]

  • Placing a cheap, powered HDMI Splitter or a pass-through HDMI EDID Emulator inline between the Vu+ and the Sony TV will permanently fix it.
  • These inline devices spoof a constant "always connected" handshake directly to the Vu+ box, meaning the Vu+ never realizes the TV has switched away, keeping the signal live and ready the second you change back.
