they are mostly telling folks now to use mips 4.1 as mips 4.2 is beta, if thats the case then none of the new stuff should of been pushed to the git. mongs.

Pretty much the same tactic Technomate employ when they screw up the bootloader and drivers then tell people to use their factory image, until after go knows how many arguments they finally admit it's their fault and fix it.

Got my box back, just started recording 3 things at once, build 037.

Will let you know how it goes

Well that worked well :(

Started recording 3 channels at 12:57

started recording.webp

Unlike before when the box just rebooted, this time it completely froze first with the TV pic still showing, for about a minute or so, then rebooted. Couldn't do a screenshot while it was frozen, but took this one as soon as it had rebooted

dam.webp

So from unpacking, setting up, it has lasted 15 mins :( No crashlogs produced.

After the reboot, the LED just has 3 horizontal lines rather than displaying any info.

Wonder what's different with me and when Stef tested it. He left his recordings on there and he did record 6 at once with zero problems. Weird.

for those who dont get crashlogs, open putty and connect to your box.

type init 4
then type enigma2

and it should start to log all the info into the session window. maybe when it crashes it will give an indication in the session windows even though there are no crashlogs generated.

or activate debug logs, which basically does the same thing.

If any one has a usb in Tey taking it out.

I pulled my usb as not recognised and box has been a lot better and recoded 8 channels 6 hd and no reboots.

It still happened, in a day of viewing it happened only twice.

Rebooting every 3 or 4 mins now, recording 3 things, try to import epg, reboots, try to watch something, reboots. Just let it record 3 things without doing anything, takes about a min or 2 longer but still reboots.

Same as before when the incorrect temp readings (that are no longer reported in this build) was the problem.

Debug log attached, not sure it shows anything though

are you always recording bbc hd?
try without see if what that guy says in email is correct.

post some more debugs, see if anyhting changes :)

No, I only used that as it was one of the first HD channels on my list

Still rebooting every few mins with no BBC

no bbc.webp

I've made a 25 min youtube vid. I obviously don't expect you to watch all of it, so the times that are important are listed below (and should also be click able on the youtube vid).

Lid on, Fan OFF, recording 3 things

4:40 Box reboots, not touched remote since it last rebooted

6:20 try to import EPG, box reboots

8:25 watching pre-recorded, box reboots

11:42 Box reboots, not touched remote since it last rebooted

12:35 Removed the lid and turned the fan ON (not powered down since last reboot)

22:00 been playing back for 10 mins fine no reboots (and I could leave it going for hrs)

22:00 tried same EPG import that failed earlier

24:00 EPG import finished 100% fine

Put lid back on and removed fan.

Now 15 to 30 mins later it will gradually get hotter and the reboots will start again (and they did) and this is repeatable 100% of the time, either it works for hrs with lid off and fan on, or with lid on and no fan after the initial 15 to 30 mins when it gets hotter, it reboots every 2 to 6 mins.

It doesn't have to record 3 things at once, doing so just speeds up the time it takes to reboot, it does it recording just one thing and watching another.

All I can think of is that Stef's warehouse must be a lot colder than my living room, hence the box is a lot cooler, or something else in the settings such as me running 1080p etc makes some sort of difference.

The box did actually crash when I pressed the timer button, nothing was recording at the time, probably a fluke, but crashlog attached anyway.

Just did the same on openmips-4.2-gbquad-20140921_usb

Think I'll put a fan in

Just got in and catching up...Sorry to hear that the quad is still playing up, i was hoping that it was returned and you were going to report all was well but couldn't really see anyway that it behaved differently from your house to the testing in the workshop, unless it was a cooler enviroment
Hopefully someone might be able to throw some light on the problem with the logs but i suppose we will just have to wait for GB to get to the bottom of it

On Openmips 4.2 i was able to make more recordings without reboot,, definatley for me it's more stable than the other images

Funnily enough there might be some truth in the BBC Hd...as the only time i get a reboot just by watching normal tv is when watching BBC Hd, normally at the time Eastenders starts and it only does it once

No box should reboot when watching or recording BBC HD channels, that's just a fob off for now.
It will have to be driver & kernel fixes from GB that finally sort the issue.

Well I received a reply early this morning indicating that they are aware of the issue, have seen this particular thread and are working on it.

There was also a link to a OpenMIPS development image
Code:
http://image.openmips.com/4.2-DEV/index.php?open=gbquad
if anyone wants to try it. I've replied looking for a development driver rather than an image...

This is the one i am using and have for a couple of weeks and for me is more stable

Well I tried it but it has exactly the same driver as the current VIX image - there won't be any significant difference.

Have you physically tried it?
In my tests i had 3 recordings running over night and no reboots..Tested it over 2 nights..I couldn't do that vix as it stands

I didn't even get as far as finishing setting up my box without it rebooting on openmips. I'm talking about reboots as in my youtube clip in my earlier post, not the enigma2 reboots when installing new plugins and trying to use them for the first time. Just doing stuff such as downloading epg data caused an instant reboot (no logs).

Had enough for the night, I took off the lid (no fan) and tried again, this time was fine.

I ftp'd my movies directory that I backed up before sending to Stef,

Just watched 2 hrs of Silent witness with zero problems (not recording anything mind you)

At 23:30 I replaced the lid, started recording 3 things and watched pre-recordedr.

30 mins later it rebooted (00:00). (which ties in to what I've seen with ViX, obviously runs much cooler with the lid off and tales a while to heat up)

Did same thing, recorded 3 things and watched a pre-recorded show, 12 mins later it rebooted. (00:12)

Cancelled one recording, so now recording 2 and watching pre-recorded.

5 mins later it rebooted (00:17)

Cancelled another recording, so now just recording one channel while watching pre-recorded

6 mins later (00:23) it rebooted

Switched it off

This is all using openmips-4.2-gbquad-20140921_usb

which I believe is the same as the ones you guys have tried ?

So for me, the same problems there regardless of ViX or Openmips.

Installing a fan tomorrow
