Please post your working brand of internal SATA HDD and size

i would strongly recommend against removing or plunging in a internal hdd while the receiver is powered up as this can cause damage to both the HDD and the receiver. not to mention you could end up electrocuting your self if you dont know what your doing.

I already said that clearly matey :)

Put it this way, if I didnt do what I done I wouldnt have got the thing to work, so it was my only option, anyways...

dont worry it was not a dig at you, but you can never have too many warnings when it comes to these kinds of things.

After a bit of messing around I got a spare Maxtor maxline plus II 250GB (7y250m0) to work, dont know if anyone else has encountered this problem but what happened was >>

I formatted the drive on my pc using NTFS format as ya do, I fitted the drive in the VU+Duo as per the instructions at the start of this whole thread, plugged everything in and the box would not boot, just kept saying starting on the digital display and then saying VU+Duo and that was it, black screen on tv, I thought ohh no !!!

Anyway, what I done I know is not recommended, I left everything plugged in including the power, took the lid back off unplugged the sata cable from the hard drive, restarted the box and hey presto the box started right up to a tv channel (if you even think about doing this with the lid off and power connected be very very carefull you do not touch any of the electrical parts in the box or you will get electrocuted at worst or blow your box at best).

After that, I plugged the sata cable back in while the box was still booted up, and like magic I was able to then follow the instructions and the hard drive was then recognised and working, but there was just no way at all it would have worked unless I done what I done.

So I hope thats a little tip for someone who has maybe encountered the same problem.

Cheers.

p.s
I have vix 1.3

has a similar issue with a Samsung HD753LJ which had been formatted ntfs, VU+ duo would hang at starting, removed HDD fit to external box plug into laptop & format xfat, back ontoo Vu+ now boot no problems

1TB Western Digital Caviar Green 3.5-inch SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM, 64MB Cache)

Anyone confirm if it works on the Duo?

Formatting

Does the VIX image contain a late kernel that understand sector alignment for big drives, or is it best to format the drive outside the Duo to get proper sector alignment and best performance?

I just bought a Hitachi 1Tb 7200rpm 32Mb Cache SATA 2 3Gb/s

Installed it (no need to format it)
Initialized it
Set up record Paths
Set up record settings
Exit out of menu
Tried timeshift
It works... easy as that.

Seagate 1TB 7200rpm 3.5" SATA3 6Gbs 32MB Hard Disk Drive.
Installed from new. Everything setted up automatically. Works beautifully!

Anyone here tried SSD yet?, That hum from the drive really annoys me.. Alternatively what would be the most silent HDD? Any input appreciated.

i am using a Toshiba MK1059GSM 1TB 2.5" laptop hard drive and it works fine, have also used a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 250gb Sata 2.5 hdd

Hi, how are you guyz installing the 2.5inch drives, need adaptor to screw in ? i cant remember, im running a Western Digital 500gb black 32mb, i had it doing noting, and also with current prices not great time to buy, it is abit loud as i have timeshift on always, thinking of getting a 1tb green 5400rpm 3.5inch, or a 500gb 2.5inch drive,

Thanks
