So this morning I tested the TBS tuner on the Zero and after the experience on my 4k was surprised to find it's working absolutely perfectly but at the same time I'm disappointed that that my 4k doesn't perform the same considering the Zero CPU is half the speed of the 4k.

There is no slow down of the UI at all and channel zapping with either FTA or crypted channels is as fast as an inbuilt tuner !

@Huevos anything can be done with 4k do you think to improve performance ?

BTW, any of you other guys testing have any feedback ?

Not much luck here, unfortunately. I've seen reports elsewhere about problems experienced by some TBS5925 users, where the tuner has randomly lost certain modes. I believe I've seen quite a lot of that over the past weekend. Normal DVB-S/S2 modes generally work -- but although I've long had multistream modes working on a Windows PC with DVBDream, the same tuner plugged into the Vu+ Solo4K generally can't see them at all. This evening, for example, I was able to scan multistream transponders on 5.0W, 11.509GHz H after entering the parameters manually in Signal finder, and they popped up in the Last Scanned list complete with programme details -- but clicking any of the channels produced just a black screen. This happened more than once. And now I'm finding that the PC can't resolve multistream channels either. I've tried reloading, rebooting, reinstalling drivers, changing the USB cable etc.

I've been using the .006 build today. The user interface still seems very slow for some operations - for example, if I add a new timer recording from the EPG, it takes about 30 seconds of the spinner for the entry to be added to the list.

I have a suspicion that there may be an intermittent on the 12V connector of my TBS5925, possibly causing drivers to become unset in the receiver; I'm hoping to investigate this as soon as I can find the right screwdriver. But that could be a separate fault. So I wonder where anyone else here has noticed hardware problems with the tuner. I also have a TBS6925, the PCI-E version, on another PC, and so far it has been behaving itself. But unfortunately these tuners are not cheap, and the manufacturer is far away.

Hi Guys,

Could someone advise me if after installing this test image I will need to start from scratch after installing the image, or can I still make a copy of my plugins, settings, and channel list to reinstall after installing the image, my build is 4.1.016 and I am presuming the only way to install this image on my VU solo2 is by USB which I have not done before.

Kind regards,
James.

You cannot do a settings/plugins restore when moving from 4.1 to 4.2, so you'll need to start from scratch.
Take an image backup before you start, and then you can get back to 4.1 very easily if you need to.

You could always copy the test image into the folder you store images, and then couch flash it.

You can ftp the zipped image into your ImageBackup folder on your Vu+ Solo2's HDD. You would need to start fresh as the image you will be testing will be 4.2.0xx whereas your Backup will be from 4.1.016 and no settings or plugin restores will be allowed.

Btw when you ftp the zipped image to your receiver, you can then Blue button > ViX > Image Manager. You will see your test image then highlight it and blue button to restore.

Thank You Guys,

I have done all that got the image in image manager/media/hdd...the problem is someone that orginally didn't want a new box has got used to using the Solo2 which means I now have to wait till I can get a few hours when she is not using it, or recording with it, or watching a recording she made!!!!

Thanks again,
James.

If you've got the time, it might be worth getting 4.2.005 up and running first, and then trying out the new image(s) will allow settings restores.

I've always found many things are slower on the solo4k, it is because of all the enigma2 arm patches in my opinion.

Might as well go directly to test image. It is almost identical apart from having multistream code. And backup from the test image should work fine in regular image.

Blind Scan Not working For Me.

Hi Huevos,

It could be my settings but as title says blind scan is not working and crashing the box although manual and automatic scans are working.

I have been scanning 45e with auto scan and this takes about 3 to 4 minutes with 179 channels found I did this twice with the same amount of channels found...this is of course with already loaded transponders some of which will be out of date, in order to give the TBS all the help I could...I disconnected A and B tuners and un-configured them to help the VU solo2 CPU and memory. I did attempt to use the TBS when my tuners were connected and active on 28.2e last night and was getting VIX spinners and a delay when changing settings using signal finder, I have not tried moving from one Sat to another yet so not sure how the TBS will handle Diseqc 1.2 and a Vbox.

I an able to watch various FTA channels and the tuner seems to be working OK it's been running for about 50 minutes or so and I have been changing FTA channels from time to time. If there is any specific settings that want testing let me know...but the blind scan is the problem and this happened about 6 times on the trot, here is the last crash log.

Kind regards,
James.

I don't think this crash is anything to do with multistream. Please check using the regular 4.2 Release image. And make a proper bug report with debug log zipped and attached.

Hi Huevos,

I have attached 3 files one from yesterday not debugged and 2 from today...in case it was the v-box causing the problem I have bypassed it and again un-configured my A and B tuners so I am using the TBS as a single satellite receiver, before trying to blind scan I tested automatic scan and manual scan and both worked.

As I said in my previous post I am not very technically minded and hope this is what you wanted.

Kind regards and thanks for all the hard work and advice you give.

James.

We need to know if the crash is just the multistream image... or is it also in the Release image. Please load the current version of the Release image, not Multistream.

I now have 4.2.005 loaded but I can't see or find the driver for the TBS in the plugins, I am sure it was in plugin drivers in the 4.2.006 image where all the USB tuners are.

@ Huevos,

Forget my last post I connected the TBS without installing a driver and restarted the Solo2 and the TBS was in the tuner page, it is now blind scanning 45e without crashing but it could be going for a while, could it be my fault that I downloaded a driver from the plugins page when using 4.2.006, I suppose I will need to try the 006 image again without downloading any drivers.

I will report back after the blidscan is completed.

Result of the blindscan was no transponders found which is strange because I can watch FTA channels with the TBS connected to my Solo2. So the blindscan is not working with 005 but there was no crash.

Is it worth me going back to 006 and not loading any TBS drivers?

Decided to try 006 but without installing a TBS driver from the driver plugins, tried 2 blindscans and got crashes both times, when I checked the debug logs there were 4 logs not 2 so I have attached them.

Kind regards,
James.

You can't blindscan without loading driver.

Please be very clear what image you are using.

Please test on 4.2.006 Release.
