Ok I tried this before, pulling a hard drive from a sky plus box, putting it inside a usb enclosure to find the 160gb hdd had 159gb available. So i thought i had did something to corrupt the drive so formatted it and sold it.

Now I have realised that sky recording are not in the same format as normal video files and this is the program to use to get them onto a pc safely...

Has anyone did this before, could you help me transfer my recordings onto my vu+ duo safely and correctly...?

old thread i know but as far as i'm aware every thing but FTA sky recordings are recorded as a encrypted stream and decoded on the fly when requested by a active sub, this to my understanding is how sky are able to remove your ability to watch recordings made months or years before cancelling your sub.

I could be very wrong though but thats how i understand it to be.

And if that's true, then boxes that can decrypt the ecm should still be able to decrypt the files and play, such as et9000 and (iirc) gb quad

Not sure though, if the file format can be read by the boxes?!

Well it's been a long time since i looked into it but as far as i know there still .TS files as with our Linux based receivers so maybe a project for some one with a compatible receiver to check ? as i know the Vu's are not capable of this ( will test on my solo2 this Thursday or Friday if i remember).

Well, I ain't been near a sky box for over 10 years now! lol :p

But, if someone manages to get a file off their sky hdd and upload it, I'll try it on the et9000...

I have a HD box full of recordings sitting in my wardrobe with a load of other crap, if i remember i'll rip the HDD out and have a go later this week.
