Vu Duo and Surround Sound

I am thinking of buying a panasonic blu ray player with 5.1 surround sound speakers. Will I be able to connect my vu duo or solo to these speakers for 5.1 surround sound.

Is this just the cable I need here....

Will this work with any surround sound system. Ive really no idea on what to do or how to set it up...

yes the vu takes the toslink i have mine connected to my panny soundbar check what you are buying uses a digital optical cable.

you must have sorted it but one thing to watch out for is make sure your surround sound system as an input for audio,(AUX)which can be used for surround sound
I came across one of these systems and it was a panni that would accept the audio input but did not offer 5.1 on that input the 5.1 only worked on the bluray disc,this was a couple of years back but worth checking before one purchases

It won't work via network or USB as the bitrate is too high (I tried) I'll try on my external eSATA HDD if I get the chance tomorrow.

you should check your network. I once tested some quite high bitrate films from NAS and speed was not the problem.

I just tested:
StarTrek should be Dolby TrueHD but I only got DD
Terminator 4 should be DTS HDMA but I only got DTS

Do not expect to much from the HD sound. 99% of listeners will not really find a difference.

Just tested with eSATA, no go
I doubt you can get BuRay speed bitrate 1080P and HD audio streaming through a network.
I have loads of 720p/1080p DTS movies that stream no problem (.MKV) but their bitrate is alot lower than that of BluRay with HD sound.

My network is 300mbps but I get the same results with the HDD plugged direct into my DUO.

Perhaps a problem of the DUO. I have an Ultimo but I remember that it also worked with my DUO while I had one. Just for a test for you I watched the whole Star Trek (latest the 5th time) in BR quality over the net from my NAS and what should I say? No Problem When I remember it correct the film has an average of around 30MBit with peaks over 45MBit. I watch almost all my movies over the net from my NAS but mainly ISOs with my HDI Dune Prime 3.

Ok then what do you suggest? My current system of speaker and AVR was "only" just around €6.000

Blueray might play but the Duo does not have the licence to decode DTSHD/ DDTRUE HD forms. I believe this requires a licence. Best you can do is downmix it if your lucky.

If you have a decent amplifier you can also plug the Duo via HDMI into your amplifier which carries the 5.1 Audio through it.

I find that sky HD movie quality is shit. If you compare it to a 720p Blueray MKV. The MKV wins with quality all day long.
