Merry Christmas all :thumbsup:

i've just downloaded the latest updates 117 of 'em and the install went ok it then asked if i wanted to reboot and i clicked yes the box eventually shutdown as always, when it came to booting the box remained with starting on the display for an awful long time about 7 or 8 minutes it then went to reading usb but with letters missing ( you know what i mean) eventually that went back to "starting" but again this was misspelt and has stayed on screen for about 15 minutes.

i've pulled the power 3 times and it does the same thing every time so far and it just wont boot

what's the problem please

Had a similar problem cured by installing via usb not online update worked for me

OMG

was there any info beforehand? as there was nothing onscreen just the normal which way did i want to install them.

Yup it says it right at top of the release thread in red

"Because of kernel change, you will not be able to perform an online update. A full flash is required for this version of ViX image. But you can use Backup Manager to backup your setting, although any extra plugin will not be reinstalled by the wizard due to the kernel change."

I have been having weird issues of late with my box, letters missing from front panel, this was only twice a few days ago.
Xmas morning spotted flashing dot and went ahead with it saying offline update.............
Argh well better get cracking hey.
Do you know what is new apart from kernel and sorry for dumb question thou i like to learn, what does the kernal do.

The kernel basically has more driver support built right in at the kernel level, allowing for greater support for things such as usb tuners and wifi sticks etc. plus all the other advantages of the newer kernels such as more efficient memory handling etc. to be fair a lot of it goes right over my head too but suffices to say you need this update LOL.

Appreciated the over head information lol, least i now know basically it updates box to make it keep up with todays tech.
Downloaded and installed new image and all going well.
I appreciate the fact that even over the xmas period there are still others spending their time in making images and keeping the vu owners happy.

Aha yes dear punisher
but i didn't go to that page i was attempting to do it after seeing the flashing icon on the info bar , and that gave the instuctions to d/l it on line.
