Hi all,

I have just installed a bluetooth keyboard (Drivers, Bluetooth plugin) and the keyboard connects okay but when testing it out (adding a timer and editing the title of the show) I can only seem to use the arrow keys and enter key etc. as though it was a regular remote control. None of the actual alpha-numeric keys work at all.

To test / diagnose I went over to a different image on the box using multiboot (ATV latest image) and tried the same thing (as I had installed the image to test a USB tuner previously) and the full keyboard functionality works perfectly. I can type all of the numbers and characters and such like.

Is there a fix that I can do to get it to work in Vix?

Cheers,
Paul

So 1st answer - no idea. Is driver installed?
2nd - why do you need it?

I'm as sure as I can be that the drivers are installed. I instealled the driver pack for "A load of Bluetooth/keyboard devices" and the keyboard connects and is partly functional. The drivers may not be up to date in the feeds though.

I installed enigma2-plugin-drivers-extrahw-bluetooth + cardreader + keyboard from the plugins repository and then went into the bluetooth devices manager plugin and connected it up.

It is pretty useful at setup time to use it instead of the virtual keyboard when entering tricky network share locations and other such things. I also wanted to use it to modify some of the recording names and also to search in things like the Youtube plugin, DLNA browser etc. If I have to rebuild the box at any point it will save me much time without the need to try and find the config files at the command line and use an editor. If I do it inside the interface there is also much less chance of screwing something up.

Like I said the keyboard is working in ATV but I want to stay on VIX as I much prefer it (and the help I get from you guys)
:)

If you can point me to the right files and settings that are needed to compare I can upload them from my ATV build (if that helps at all).

Cheers,
Paul

OK - will play around with a keyboard next week and see what happens.

I do but its on a short cable and my chair is about 15ft away from the box. Can use it for testing though if that's what you are looking at.

Thanks
Paul

Partly, although a 5m USB extension cable is <£10.

I'm sure the wife will be most happy to see that in the lounge 🤣🤣. I hear you though... I will do that as a backup solution if the Bluetooth cannot be fixed going forward. I appreciate that out of all the stuff that needs to be maintained this is not exactly a top tier priority 👍

I am looking at this, but other stuff keeps getting in the way ... so hope to be able to concentrate later this week

I hear you. I know what its like twol. I used to be a software developer too (Windows / IBM AS400). I got paid for my work mind :) . I have no expectations over and above everyone's kindness and enthusiasm.

once committed let me know the location of the py files and I can install and test (or do i need to wait until the next realease?

Good point … if you go to menu/setup//system/keybord settings and choose Default(us) and save then try it!

but dont i need some new py files with your commit within (or am I being super dumb)?

There is a screwed up English keyboard map that is chosen by default…… the American one should work for you - try it.

Yay.... That worked wonders. I now have a use for my lovely Bluetooth keyboard. I bought it ages ago and used it once. It may get used a bit more now 🤣 🤣

Thanks for working that one out. It's the small victories that matter! Now...... Mpd recording..... That's a bigger fish to fry. (another thread). 🐟 🍟
