Yes use the latest bootloader..perhaps try a couple of recordings first for 1/2 hour then set another one off and so on..Hope it's better for you

Well 3 recordings last night with no problems on Openmips 4.2. Now need to sort out the channel lists, EPG etc. So far so good.

I used my old channel list (bouquet) and just ftp it into etc, enigma2
I too recorded 3 sd channels over night from 1am to 10am (10 hours) this morning and no reboot..
I did try 5 recordings earlier in the evening and got a reboot after 1 hour, so still not perfect but much better than the others..Think it also depends if you are recording or watching hd channels
Also yesterday tried rsi 3.0 and rsi 4.0 but didn't fair well
Glad it is working better for you
So i wonder what the difference is between openmips 4.2 and the others, why should one work better?
Ojustaboo, any news on your gigablue...is it back with Stef?

I think it's back with Stef, I imagine he either received it back yesterday or will get it back today.

I have Freesat on my TV so still have TV, mind you cant believe how crap and awful it is. Worst EPG ever, I need my box back :)

The biggest concern over recent developments is the removal of the temp display as though that's going to fix everything. If it's still getting to the false 99/100 reading and rebooting, but now we cant see this is happening we just see the reboots, in my opinion it's a step backwards as its taking useful info away from us trying to diagnose the problem.

Actually it was removed because gigablue them selves have removed it from their own drivers, so it's a redundant reading on these receivers now or soon will be.

So i wonder what the difference is between openmips 4.2 and the others, why should one work better?

because its the GB factory image and gets driver / kernel updates first, way before any one else does.

It is still very stable at the moment, but I do miss the Vix image. I hope GB gets this sorted soon, but taking what you said the other day, might be a Christmas present!

Ah ok thanks, that explains it
Any idea when the driver/kernel that are currently in the openmips 4.2 image will be implemented into vix?

it already is.
altho both use the same open embedded base, there enigma2 is different.

Now i'm confused
When Pheonix said 'because its the GB factory image and gets driver / kernel updates first, way before any one else does'
I assumed that vix in it's current release hadn't implemented them yet
as my original question was... 'So i wonder what the difference is between openmips 4.2 and the others, why should one work better?

But if you are saying that they already have been implemented and in my findings on my quad is that the openmips is much more stable with the booting/temp issue (so called)...Then why is it running better..Is it something to do (as you say) with the enigma2 they are using, i assumed that all enigma2 were the same, obviously not

OpenMips are always the first to get drivers etc to test as they are the factory GB image,

Well all I can add is that my Quad on OpenMips 4.2 has not missed a beat so far.

I was going to post earlier about the drivers, but didn't want to cause more confusion. The GB drivers dated 030914 are on OpenMIPS (which is the "factory" image for GB) and were incorporated into the 4.2 OpenATV development image and into the 030 ViX release. So all the same, and the linux kernel is the same too. They seem to have sorted out the memory fragmentation problem which was causing glitches in playback - certainly did in my Quad+. The re-booting issue in the Quad does not appear to have been fixed, though the OpenMIPS image seems to be more stable for you. Maybe the difference in enigma code is contributing to the apparent stability? Stef is in email contact with the GB driver devs so hopefully a resolution will be found quickly.

Well sorry to report today's recordings have suffered failures again. Also on playback the box must have rebooted 3 or 4 times before we gave up. This is on what thought was the stable 4.2 Suggestions on a post card as they say.

Oh no, How many recordings were you doing? hd or sd?

We had 5 going through the day, all HD. Now have gone way back to Apollo 19. See what happens with that. Set two recordings tonight both SD. Report back tomorrow.
So 5 at the same time? and all though the day? Was this for testing or do you generally record that much?
Same as me with my tests, 5 or 6 seems to push it over the edge...I had 5 sd recordings through the night, no reboots, added a 6th in the morning (hd) and rebooted straight away....and had 3 sd recordings running all through last night and no reboots.....for me this is excessive as i only record the odd film here and there...so this image is working 'normally' for me but i know it's not perfect as per the tests i have done...but you have to admit that 4.2 is much more stable...the others i was getting reboots regularly even without recording..Let us know how you get on with Apollo19 but i think you will be back to 4.2
