Sorry, I think you are still being unfair.

To be perfectly honest if I was the site sponsor sand I saw some of the admins comments in this thread, I'm not sure I would want my site associated with such people and I'm being 100% serious.

I have all the time in the world for the likes of Andy working his backside off writing the software.

But the way we have been treated over this issue by admin/mod staff, well it's bang out of order really and I would expect admin staff to come down hard on mods that treated us like this, not for the comments to come from the site owner and an admin.

And all it takes is two or three pissed off people to go with another image and you can guarantee when they are discussing on whichever forum they end up residing on, various things, if someone brings up ViX, they are likely to make comments along the lines of "great bit of software, but if you have problem and are trying to get to the bottom of it on their forum , they will tell you to shut up and give sarcastic replies.

And what sort of damage would that do to the ViX programmers hard work or the site sponsor?

And for what? What is so wrong with this thread? All people are trying to work out is why going back to the older version doesn't work. Which version will work,. Whether others have tried a version and their problems gone away.

So what if it's a driver problem. Are we only allowed to discuss things that aren't driver related on this forum? If someone has a problem with playback, their LCD display not working or whatever, are they going to be told it's probably a driver problem so don't discuss it here, go hassle Gigablue, VU or whoever instead? Because that would cut your forum traffic down by about 95%

I really really really don't get why this has got so nasty., It's turned into a real them and us with the admins and the Quad users having a problem and there was no need for it to. ALl we did was tried to help each other, did our tests, reported our findings and you all started getting nasty.

Your forum, your choice but I've seen it happen before and I'm sure it will happen again. I used to help mod what was a very very well known UK cable forum. It grew (over 15,000 members), more admins, more mods and in the end I quit my position as I couldn't stand the way many members were being treated by certain mods/admins, who would say things totally out of order to innocent threads, I would point out to them (admin/mod) that I think they are wrong to have said xyz, they would talk about the forum member in the mod area as though that forum member was a piece of scum (often members that have contributed 100s of useful posts over the years), others would agree for no reason other than all sticking together, and I got sick of it, I watched them drive person after person away and said if they carried on they would have no site left. They weren't all bad, just that once someone had done or said something wrong, no one had the guts to apologise, instead almost everyone else blindly backed them up.

There's a reason that site no longer exists today and I place it firmly on those few admins/mods.

Or to put it another way, it's the users that make this site, it's the users that make the sponsor want to sponsor you.

I am not here to criticize nor berate any user and we are as eager to get this issue resolved as you are but it is a fault that the manufacturer needs to resolve and out of our hands. Which is why we have repeatedly advised that you ignore the temperature readings as they are false, for which we got abuse from you (not specifically you, but you the users).

Dont get me wrong I would be pissed off too if I had a similar issue with a receiver I had bought (Incidentally the person you are venting your rage towards aka stanman also has a GB quad that is pretty much useless at the moment, a GB Quad that he bought out of his own money but you dont see him going off with Andy to get it fixed).

By all means please continue to test your theories and post the results here, you never know you may just end up coming up with a solution, but please also bear in mind that we have no control over driver or bootloader development other than to report such issues directly to the manufacturer (which we have done several times).

Also please remember that we are providing support here out of our own time (I work nearly 100 hrs a week as well as spending a good 50 plus hrs a week here offering assistance to users), so it is very disheartening when we come onto the forum and read comments like the one stanman quoted. we are only human, just like your selves and just like your selves we suffer from a little thing called human emotion. While we try to offer impartial support that may not be possible, especially when some posts come across as a persona attack against us (No I am not saying your's is one of them, but there are plenty in this thread that can be construed as such).

So I have had my say on the subject and yes I also have a GB Quad which is affected by these issues although to a lesser degree than some here.

I must absolutely agree: if my main-box would behave like the Quad apparently does for several users, it would drive me mad, mad as hell. And whether the issues are due to faults in the image or in the drivers wouldn't concern me in the least.
I think that drivers were only mentioned in this thread to make clear to users that fixes are beyond our control, that we are awaiting a fix by the manufacturer just as eagerly as users do.

Can anyone suggest an OpenVIX / Driver version combination I can flash which will sort out the recording issue please?

And indeed is it even possible to "downgrade" driver versions to older (working) ones?

Thanks,

Steve

It's not just a matter of downgrading the driver, this appears to be a combination of both the bootloader and drivers.

There is no rhyme or rhythm to the issue.

I have tried couple of images and same issue.

Currently got openvix hd and after few crashes am recording 8 channels and no crash but it will come. Box has been on all night so temp is normal.

Official Gigablue Forum is here

Anyone having issue please bombard their Forum.

This is NOT a ViX image issue.

Just to elaborate in Sicilian's reply above, it is not meant as a brush off by any means. but the more uses who raise these issues with Gigablue directly the faster they will start to take notice. because no matter how many times we contact them it's only considered as one report from a single source.

Sicilian

thanks for that information - I didn't have any contact details (apart from the fairly useless Gigablue-support.de forum).

I've emailed the info address with my complaint and hope to hear back soon - I suggest everyone having this problem should do the same.

Guys, anyone emailing Gigablue / Impex directly, please ensure you give them a link to this thread and any other relevant threads that may be on other Forums.

Posted my findings, awaiting mod approval before it appears.

Haven't mentioned USB tuners as I know nothing about that problem.

Well I received a reply early this morning indicating that they are aware of the issue, have seen this particular thread and are working on it.

There was also a link to a OpenMIPS development image
Code:
http://image.openmips.com/4.2-DEV/index.php?open=gbquad
if anyone wants to try it. I've replied looking for a development driver rather than an image...

Email sent to the GB forum and direct to GB. Hope all this pressure has some effect.

I've received 3 replies from two different people. Interestingly one said adding a fan will not invalidate the warranty?

Quoted below with names removed.

Thanks for your mail,
We apologize for the Poblem you just.
I also noticed in the forum last page this week

I have read in the forum, there are problems.

The first is a problem when recording BBCHD

Second reboot trouble (I think comes from the CPU load we have to be recalculated in the driver kontrolieren. Needs in driver.)

3 is LCD problem (which we can quickly edit)

We program new driver, please be patient

I thank you for your understanding

Best Regards
please write us box Serial No., and could you please test with this SW
