[VU+ Solo4K] TBS 5925 USB Tuner

I've now had a chance to try the .008.003 build on my Duo2, and I'm delighted to find that it's working almost perfectly, picking up multistream channels on 12.5W, 5W and 4.8E. But I found I had to reduce the priority of Tuner E (the TBS tuner). Without that, the box would correctly go to Tuner E for a multistream selection, but would then stick there for any further selection even if it wasn't a multistream channel. So, loud and prolonged applause to Huevos for his achievement.

My one reservation is that I noticed this morning that the box had used Tuner E to make a recording which could equally well have been done with Tuners A, C or D. I shall keep an eye on it to see it this happens again.

I can confirm tenten78's observation that the only multistream now working on 4.8 E is 12.341 H, stream 40. The others were certainly there a few weeks ago, but it's not hard to imagine that they might be casualties of the political situation in Ukraine.

I think I've now worked out why my Duo2 kept wanting to use Tuner E inappropriately. I had mistakenly assumed that the tuner priority settings were a single setting for all satellites on that tuner. But in fact they can be set individually. So I've now set all the satellites (LNBs) which I'm using on Tuner E to Priority 1, and everything seems to be working correctly. Priorities for the other tuners are all set to Auto.

Hi Huevos!

Please build OpenVIX image for Xtrend ET8500+TBS5925 with MIS, PLS code, PLS mode adjustment support.

Thanks.

Sorry, something failed in that build. Started it again. Will take a few hours to re-run.

Thanks Huevos!

Yes I trashed everything after the build of et8500 failed. This is in dev branch now so will filter down to release soon.

@Huevos
Hi, do you know when openvix release image will include multistream support? Or exists any beta image which I can participate to test?
Thanks

There has been a bit of a setback. Some receivers would need a kernel patch to run the multistream code. Not sure how we are going to handle this yet but when I have a bit of free time I will rebuild some multistream images.

I'm seeing some odd behaviour here with my Vu+ Duo2 since getting my TBS5925 USB tuner working (Vix 4.2.008.003 Multistream). I've reduced the TBS (Tuner E) to Priority 1 so that if one of the other tuners can handle a channel selection, it will do so, leaving Tuner E free for any multistream selection.

Unfortunately, while seeking feeds using Signal Finder or Manual Tune with one of the other tuners, I've had episodes when a transmission has been identified and captured by the tuner -- but when I try to select it to view it, the transmission seemingly isn't there. An error box pops up with the message "No free tuner", even though nothing else is happening on the box. On the LCD display, all five tuners are shown greyed-out, and the entries in the channel lists are greyed out too. Yet all the parameters including the satellite identity have been stored by the receiver, as I can confirm by viewing them in Dreamboxedit. Restarting the receiver doesn't clear the problem, but it somehow seems to clear itself if I try again later.

This morning I found a slightly different problem. After I had scanned a transponder using Tuner D, the service was correctly identified and saved, but when I tried to view it, the LCD showed that the receiver had jumped to Tuner E, even though Tuner E does not have access to that satellite. This happened consistently.

However, when I then tried to select previously stored multistream channels, Tuner E failed to find them. To get Tuner E working normally again, I had to restart the receiver. Removing and reinserting the TBS5925's power connector wasn't sufficient.

@Huevos

Thanks for the update, plugins etc available again.

I see there's no update to 4.2.011 for this multistream image, is ms now included in the main branch ?

@Huevos, I'm tempted to buy a Mut@nt HD51 to play with, will it be possible to add multistream for this STB ?

No, multistream is not in the current release image. Reason is it depends on definitions that are not in the kernel headers of some receivers running older kernels. Hopefully this will get sorted with when we move to ViX 5.0.

I don't mind adding more boxes to multistream on demand.

I'm building these images and hosting the feeds myself so don't expect any updates to follow the official images. If they are not updated frequently enough for you please consider building thrm yourself.
