Hi everyone, I feel absolutely sick. After flashing my VU+2 Duo with Openvix 6.7.013 2 days ago, the EPG stopped working the next day. I had been using the EPGInstaller plugin and the Refresh Now didn't work either. After numerous times trying it, and restarting the box I deleted that plugin thinking there may be an update. But trying to d/l it again gave me an error message and "perhaps opkg update". So I decided to try EPG Refresh -. I downloaded EPGRefresh and after checking the settings, I let it run on my Freesat Bouquet on Astra 28.2°. It took a while and appeared to do the job. When it was finally finished. I selected the FreesatUK bouquet and sure enough, ITV 1 (for example) was showing the name of the current program. So I selected ITV1 and I got nothing at all - the screen was black with the VIX logo at top left. This happens with every channel, EPG info or not - I had no picture at all on any channel. Info is shown but no picture.
I checked my network, cables, power cable, sat settings, all were OK.
So I installed 6.7.14 today and although I made a 6.7.013 backup 2 days ago and also again before I installed this one, plus I had my old 6.0.08 backup, the new 6.7.14 has deleted all the backups in my /media/hdd/imagebackups folder, so I can't restore my plugins and settings.
This is a nightmare. I can't connect to the VU+ using DreamboxEdit or Dcc-E2 to at least get my satellites.xml and channels infos onto it because it is telling me the username and password is incorrect.
I am at my wits' end and close to tears.. I'll keep trying..

I appreciate this is frustrating, but you are throwing everything all the problems in one post and mixing things up.

1. Did you restore settings/plugins after you flashed 6.7 013 last time.
2. To get from 6.7 013 to 6.7 014, did you perform a software updated, flash using image manager, flash using USB?
3. Flashing an image does not change contents of the HDD. What is more than likely is that the mount points have changed. This can be fixed if you stay calm and methodical.
  • Please post a screenshot of Menu > Information > Devices
  • Issue the command below and post back the results. Forget DCC and use Putty or the built-in terminal in openwebif
Code:
df -Th

4. Have you set a password on your receiver? You cannot FTP unless you do.
5. Why are you using a customised satellites.xml file?
6 You are mixing up Bouquets, viewing and EPG. Lets deal with the above list first. EPG Refresh is essentially just a channel zapper.

Hi Abu, You're right, I was mixing everything up in one big miserable heap. It's fixed now but in case anyone needs the information:
>1. Did you restore settings/plugins after you flashed 6.7 013 last time.
Yes. I restored the settings and plugins from my old 6..0.08, worked fine.
>2. To get from 6.7 013 to 6.7 014, did you perform a software updated flash..
I used the method which you kindly suggested in the Pluto TV thread: First made backups, then downloaded usb.zip file to PC -> sent by FTP to the VU+ -> Flash (Blue) in Image Manager menu.
>3. Flashing an image does not change contents of the HDD. What is >more than likely is that the mount points have changed.
Probably, as when my son in law came round to help today (I'd been trying for 9 hours to at least get a picture on the screen), he needed to remount the hard disk. But it was empty anyway.
>4. Have you set a password on your receiver? You cannot FTP unless
>you do.
The receiver already had a password but Dreambox Edit kept telling me the user name and/or password was incorrect and/or it could not connect. Son-in-Law added it again using Dreambox Edit on his laptop hooked into our wlan. So at least I could upload my sat and channel list via FTP.
>5. Why are you using a customised satellites.xml file?
It's a normal satellites.xls file but without all the sats outside our range. I only need 4 or 5 satellites and the file is a lot smaller.
But even then, clicking on the name of a channel STILL just gave me a black screen. The problem obviously wasn't with our wlan, nor with the LAN, and we could access all the VU's menus and even download the CrossEPG Plugin, so it wasn't the VU.
The only thing remaining that we could think of was the coax cable (brand new, installed by our local sat man last week to replace our old 40 year old (!) cable). So my son-in-law switched off the VU, unscrewed the coax cable, screwed it back in, switched on the VU and lo and behold, everything was working.
So although it sounds unlikely, somehow installing the new image caused a glitch and screwed everything up, including deleting everything on the harddisk and just about from everywhere else, plus blocking or not accepting the signal from the coax cable.

You should be able to download an image using image manager. Please try again. You can do that now, you dont have to flash it.

It is impossible that flashing an image messed up your hard drive. Please post the details requested if you want to explore this. If you initialised/formatted the HDD, that would have erased the HDD.
More than likely that it was a loose connection on the f-plug.

Satellites xml has nothing to do with tuning/activating a channel. All it does is list satellites and transponders to scan. The actual tuning details are stored in lamedb file. I do hope you are keeping the file updated. Are you using a motorised dish?

flashing a new image does not change anything on a disk, however it is possible that the mounts were changed for some reason, so that the installed disk is mounted say as /dev/sda1 and your flash (or a usb stick if attached) is mounted as HDD.
So blue button on remote, MountManager and check how everything is mounted.
If the harddisk is not mounted as HDD then change mount settings. Then in BackupManager, press Menu button and check that the HDD is selected not flash.

Done all that, HDD is mounted correctly.
>You should be able to download an image using image manager.
Before your solution, Abu, I tried at least 12 times - selecting an image from the list and trying to download it. I tried over three days, both with WLAN and LAN, some just showed me "Failed" under the long blue bar, immediately, others showed me "Waiting" and 0/100 in the blue bar literally for hours - I usually gave up after 3 hours max.
AND I think I may have discovered the problem with the black screen which caused all the horror and panic in my first posting.
Back in January during heavy rain, I lost the signal from the dish. Because of the uncertain weather (snow and rain = slippery roof), our sat man couldn't come round until the end of May or so. He said the dish was perfectly aligned for 28.2 E but trying to change to another satellite didn't move the dish. After numerous tests he discovered that the coax cable was full of water. So he disconnected the motor from the dish to be on the safe side, and took the VU back to the shop with him to ensure that there was no damage. About a week ago he came and installed the new coax cable, BUT he forgot to reattach the motor (he is currently on holiday so can't come round), and the VU+ was still set to being a motorized dish in the Tuner settings.
So, when I switched the VU+ on, the screen shows a satellite dish flashing at top left and - because it is apparently confused - it then somehow shuts off the connection via the coax. It did it again tonight and the only way I could get a picture on the TV was to disconnect and reconnect the coax cable from the back of the VU+.
I have just changed the Tuner settings to Simple... Single.. 28.2 E Astra, which should hopefully get rid of the blackout problem until he can come round, reattach the motor and I can use the motorized settings again (I have them all written down :giggle:)
