I'm having an issue with my timers when one recording should start after another. For example my dual tuner is recording the following:

Programme 1 - BBC 1 - 20:00-21:00
Programme 2 - ITV 2 - 20:00-21:00
Programme 3 - BBC 2 - 21:00 - 21:30
Programme 4 - C4 - 21:00-21:30

By default there is a custom offset of 5 mins before/after a recording, this means Programmes 3 and 4 will not start recording as both tuners are in use at their start times.
There's a couple of channels that run over their end time (I've found that ITV2 or MTV always do this!) If I set a timer or autotimer for something on these channels the end is cut off without an offset but it's the only way to guarentee my other recording start.

Is there a way to avoid this? Is a negative offset possible? I'd much rather miss a couple of minutes at the beginning that a couple at the end.

I'm not sure how to do it permanently if it is an option, but on a one off basis go to your epg, go to the programme that is due to record and press green to change timer, choose edit and edit start end time, make sure you save before exit

That's what I'm doing at the minute but I keep forgetting

Menu -> Setup -> System -> Recording and Playback Settings -> Margin before recording (minutes) and Margin after recording (minutes)

Edit: Sorry ive just re-read your post. Doesn't appear you can set a negative time on there, I assume setting it to 0 doesn't work?

0 cuts the end off some shows

That is not correct (assuming the recordings actually conflict due to them being on more then 2 transponders):
1- AT will add a disabled timer when there is a conflict, not a delayed timer.
2- Endtime and starttime being the same will provoke a conflict. There mist be a difference of 1 minute between them.

You can try to handle any conflicts via the timers: open timers, and look for disabled ones. Open and save it: now the conflict manager will kick in and show you what exactly is conflicting. The conflict manager helps you to resolve the conflict exactly the way you want to.

The easy answer is you need a 3rd tuner, i have a Sundtek USB sat tuner which is the best sat USB tuner i have ever had, maybe not the cheapest answer but you have a point where you need to access 3 maybe 4 transponders at one time. (Switching your BBC 1 & 2 Recordings to the HD channels will solve it a little bit, the English variants are on the same mux).

With 3 tuners you also get conflicts; just a matter of how much and what you want to record.

And you'll not be able to record from 4 transponders with 3 tuners anyway :)

Why such an old image btw?

I didn't realise it was! I'll update it later. I guess I'll live with it for now, I have another single tuner connected upstairs so I'll spread the timers between them both and try to get them recording to my NAS to share media.

Like I said if he switched his bbc recordings to HD he would only need 3 transponders.
